BIOGRAPHY

Ileana is a London based Italian jazz singer, lyricist and singing teacher.

Born in Rome, she started her musical training on piano at the age of ten. She then studied classical singing with the late Canadian soprano Marguerite Lavergne, and contemporary singing at the International Music Institute, Università della Musica and Saint Louis College of Music. She completed her studies at Licinio Refice Conservatoire of Music (Frosinone, Italy), where she gained a first-class degree in Jazz.

Beginning her career in ’97 as a pianobar singer, she has since then recorded three albums and involved herself in a variety of projects, performing alongside many leading musicians on the Rome and London scene. She has worked in theatres, sessions and uncountable gigs, covering a wide range of contemporary styles (jazz, pop, rock, folk, soul)

Past projects include singing with the bands: “No Age Four…Jazz!”, “Memphis Ladies…and Their Boys”, “The Blue Notes Jazz Band”, “Fair Island”, “The Jazz Farm”, "Whimsy Sounds Vocal Trio" and the “Ileana Di Camillo Jazz Quartet”. More recently, she has been a regular feature of the "Antonio De Lillis's jazz quintet" and co-led the contemporary jazz ensemble MIA Panboola, with Australian pianist Meg Morley.

In 2005, Ileana began to teach individual lessons in her private studio. Teaching is her absolute passion, and over the years this passion has brought her to work with various schools, colleges and academies, as a voice tutor, class teacher and workshop facilitator. She has taught singing to students of all ages and levels, always striving to create a positive and encouraging learning environment, and carefully tailoring her lessons in order to reach every student and facilitate their abilities.

In 2018, Ileana was awarded a distinction for her PGCert in Applied Professional Practice (Vocal Pedagogy) from Cardiff Metropolitan University, in conjunction with Voice Workshop Ltd. She had the honour to present her research project on voice and posture at the 2018 Voice Geek Conference in Colchester, alongside internationally renowned experts.
